What are the best cruises and cruise lines from NY?
Hello,

I am looking for recommendations for the best cruises that are based from New York. I am looking for 14 day cruises that go to the bahamas, or a tropical environment. Does anyone know the best cruises that start from New York?

Thanks so much.

Answer by Johan from Sweden
If its still around I would recomend ncl cruises to florida and bahamas. Other than that RCCL has a great service package and you can always go on a back to back transatlanic crossing with Cunard.

And as I always says: There is no such things as the best cruise and cruise line but there is the best cruise for you. Johan.

What are the catagory upgrades on cruises mean?
What are the catagory upgrades on cruises mean? Example: Get a free 4 catagory upgrade with this cruise.

Answer by Penny B
Pay for a 1A get a 6C for the same price. so to speak. Or pay for a 6B get a 9A

get an ocean view for an interior price

get a balcony for an ocean view price.

Answer by Time travler
It means the same size room, but closer to the middle of the ship. You see, most people prefer the middle of the ship because you feel less movement in the middle. So, these upgrades do not mean a whole lot. A good upgrade is like from a balcony to a mini suite, something like that.

Answer by Tivogal
cruises have different categories in the same level. it has to do with the accessability of the rooms the and the bigger rooms. if you re upgraded sometimes you get a bigger room, or a better location
(cc)

Answer by stepmiller2
Typically the upgrades are within the same category but higher up on the ship, so for instance you book and oceanview cabin on deck one and they bump you up to an oceanview on deck three. I have never heard of an upgrade on the same deck as everyone in the same type of room on the same deck pays the same price, so if you want to move just ask. Sometimes you can get a category upgrade but that is rare because of the financial costs. If you are a past guest your chances for a decent upgrade greatly imporove. I generally purchase the category I want with the cabin to be determined. As a past guest I have always ended up in better than the lowest priced location for the category I purchased, which is what I paid.

Answer by Barkley Hound
Cabins are priced based on location and view. An upgrade is done not as a favor to you but to sell more rooms. By moving you to a better room they can resell the lower price ones. I booked a room on the Golden Princess to Hawaii in January. I paid for a guarantee in class HH which is the lowest price outside cabin with an obstructed view. A couple of days later they assigned a room to me in class DD which is 8 categories up. It is now unobstructed and I probably saved about $ 800.

What is the best site for deals on cruises?
and PLEASE do not spam with an advertisement or I will report you. I want answers from consumers who have used various cruise websites for deals on cruises. There seems to be so many out there all claiming to be the best in price…but they all seem to have the best price. I want to book a cruise on either Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, or Celebrity to the Caribbean this summer. Let me know your opinions.

Answer by ALE
If I was you I would find a good local travel agent. They can get you just as good a deal than the internet sites. Plus they know all the little tricks the cruise line’s spring on you after you buy your tickets. PLus many times travel agents have reserved blocks of cabins on certain cruise lines that include a lot of extras you don’t get with a web site. And the most important thing is you have access to a real live local human being that looks after your best interest and gets you the most bang for your buck. They know all the horror stories . I prefer the human touch.

What are some really nice cruises/cruise ships to go on in november?
I would like to know of some nice cruises that me and my husband could go on for our 2nd anniversary…We want something nice cause we didn’t have a honeymoon or be alone on our first anniversary. We want to keep it at places that will be warm too. I was also wondering where the best places are to find deals so that we can get food and drinks included in our price.

Answer by goaheadnfireme
Royal Caribbean

Answer by sally b
The caribbean will be warm and affordable. Food is always included on cruises. If you really want drinks included, you are going to have to go on one of the luxury lines where the difference in price will be a lot more than the cost of your drinks. If you want the all inclusive, it will be much more luxurious from the linens used to the food served.

Answer by loveabull2006
All the cruise ships are nice from what I hear. We just took the Norwegian Sky to Bahamas and thought it was very nice. It was the only one we could book at the time we wanted to go that had a balcony room( which I recommend). Although you don’t spend much time in the room, it’s soo nice having the balcony to sit out on and get some good pics and the sunrise/sunset. I saw the Norwegian Jewel at port and it looked very nice! It was huge and Norweigian has the newest boats, but I have heard from alot of people the Royal Carribean is the nicest. Iv’e never been on any of thiers yet. Carnival seems to have a younger crowd with more kids and younger crowd. I would suggest a balcony or suite room on the Royal Carribean or Norweigian. There are many warm places to go. Google up warmest places to take a cuise to and I’m sure you’ll find something to your liking. Soft drinks and alcohol are not included.

Answer by misterpewe
most of cruise liner go to a warm places during winter, besides they have any kind of itenerary in 5 different continents that will suits your need.
hawaii, southern carribean, panama canal, just to name a few.
there are a lot of cruise liner out there, but Crystal Cruise is on top of the list. it’s quite expensive though, but it’s worth it. Crystal Cruise has been awarded the no 1 spot on the top 10 best cruise liner acccording Condenast Traveller and Travel and Leisure magazine for years.
to name other few cruise liner, Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Disney Cruise, Carnival, Princess Cruise, Costa Cruise, Cunard Line(Ms. Queen Elizabeth II).
there are also some small cruise liner, such as the Yacth of Seaborn, Windstar etc.
and ofcourse you could check on their own website to check for itenerary and prices.
i hope you have a wonderful and memorable anniversary

Answer by dee
Royal Caribbean our really nice ships to go on. The newer ones are real nice because of the rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, etc. But Isee you want drinks to be included and on cruises they are not included. Unless you get a beverage card, its like a prepaid card that you can buy that you can your drinks for. But food is included. If u want drinks includes a all inclusive will be your best bet.

What are some cruises that depart from australia?
i really want to see egypt, greece, rome and spain.
is it possible to visit those countries all in one cruise? if so what cruises do you recommend? and dose it depart from australia?
thank you.

Answer by timetravler
I haven’t heard of any cruises that depart from Australia that then go to the Mediterranean. I only know of cruses departing from Australia that go around Australia or New Zealand. I did take a 29 day cruise From Australia that ended up in the United States(LA).You would do best to contact a travel agent on this question.

Answer by TINKERTOY ….. the 1 & only
Cruises departing from Australia typically go to Australian ports and then to New Zealand ports. A few cruises go to those ports and end in Singapore.

YES!! you can cruise to all of the ports that you want to see but you’ll have to first fly to the Mediterranean to begin your cruise. There are several cruise lines, like Holland America, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Norwegians that cruise to all of those ports. IN addition, you will likely have to take a cruise that is about 12 to 14 days or more in order to make all of the ports that you want, OR, you can book two cruises of maybe 7 to 9 days each back to back.

No, you can’t cruise from Australia to visit those countries, you could need to go to Europe and take a cruise from there.

After recently travelling by Cruise Ship from Australia with P&O Cruises, they tend to visit Australian Ports, New Zealand, South Pacific Islands (Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji etc) and Indonesia aswell.

How did you like your European river cruise with Viking River Cruises?
We’ve never been on a cruise before, but we are pretty sure we don’t want to go on a ship that has 5,000 passengers and assigned seating, etc. Are the best times to go in June and September? That’s when the prices are highest. Is there really enough to do on these river cruises? Are they full of stuffy old rich people? Is the food good?

Answer by Anja H
The prices are high in June and September since this is the high season. The possibility that the weather is good is higher at that time and it is school vacation time in Europe.

For the food, I can only say, that a friend of mine is the cooperate chef there – so I can say the food is good. lol

What are some good companies to go on Cruises with?
Me and my girlfriends are planning a cruise for this summer. We are all college students and are looking for cheap cruises / flights. We want to go somewhere really hot!
Any ideas??
Thanks!

Carnival. That’s the way to go. I am 28 and my husband and I have been on 5 Carnival Cruises and one Royal Caribbean. Actually, we leave in 31 days on another cruise. Carnival is the fun ship. Don’t waste your money buying a room with a balcony because you don’t spend that much time in the room anyways. You can get a great deal if you get a room with up to 4 people in it. We went on a Royal Caribbean Cruise once and felt like we were on the Titanic. Carnival always has some type of activity going on. Endless activities. I even once applied to work for them because I figured since I go on so many cruises maybe I can get a good discount. Trust me. Go on a Carnival Cruise. Get one room for all of you and have fun. It doesn’t matter that the room is small, you are not going to be in it except to sleep. Oh, and do a 5 or 7 day cruise. If not you’ll regret it. Bon Voyage.

Answer by Paul in San Diego
I disagree with Daisy. I won’t go on a cruise unless I get a balcony. In fact, I always spend the extra money to get a suite on the back of the ship with a wrap around balcony. It’s very nice to have your own space to sit and look out at the ocean in privacy. Otherwise, you’ll be sitting up around the pool with a bunch of noisy kids running around.

As far as price, Carnival is cheapest across the board compared to all other cruise lines’ similar staterooms. However, I took my daughter on a Carnival cruise once, and she thought the ship was dumpy and the food not nearly as good as Princess or Royal Caribbean. I went on Holland America once and I thought it was a bit stuffy (not laid back enough) for my tastes.

Answer by ~*~Sitting, Waiting, Wishing~*~
Royal Caribbean, hands down. They can be a little more pricey but it’s worth it. I’ve been on 26 Royal Caribbean cruises and I would never do another cruise line. I did two Carnival cruises and they were terrible. The ships were run down and not clean. The staff was very rude and complained constantly and the food was terrible.

Princess!!! They’re cruises are amazing~very nice and fun (i’m not sure about the price, but i don’t think they’re all that expensive). i really recommend their carribean cruises~i’ve been on two and loved them both (fav. vacations besides a different princess cruise to alaska :) ). my favorite one left from florida and visited the carribean (including the cruise line’s own private island), the bahamas, and mexico. it had a nice, tropical partyish atmosphere~i think you would probably love it :)
but the best thing honestly is the staff–they are freakin AWSOME! :) they are seriously the most friendly and helpful people you will meet anywhere-i really loved the guy who cleaned our room. he was super friendly and always left me and my sister extra chocolates on our pillows at night. plus one time he made us a monkey out of towels and hung it from the cealing–it was really cute and creative. all the staff really go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing cruise :)

A US-operated Antarctic cruise ship with 160 people aboard has lost an engine in high seas, but is limping safely to its scheduled port. The Argentine Navy said the Clelia II declared an emergency on Tuesday, reporting it had lost an engine amid heavy seas and 55 miles per hour (90 km per hour) winds. What is the best way to shop for cruises online?
Its for my friend and I, we want to do a Disney cruise. What is the best website for buying cruises.

Answer by timetravler
I have used vacationstogo with great success. But just so you know going directly to a regular travel agent may get you even a better price or more perks. Plus a regular travel agent will not charge you anything, may have pictures of cabins, and give very good advice. I have booked through vacationstogo, directly with the cruise company, and with a regular travel agent. I prefer a regular travel agent now because it seems more personal.

Answer by mssharon
Try http://www.CruiseCompete.com.

Just pick your sailing, and travel agents will compete to offer you the best deal. As there are a lot of Disney specialists using this site, you’ll get some good pricing.

What are the ethical issues of cruises giving uneaten food to homeless people in ports?

So much food is wasted on cruises every year..
Maybe cruise companies can start donating wasted food at ports?
What’s wrong with donating the food at the port areas for human consumption?

If it’s going to be thrown out anyway, why not?

I know I asked this before but I want the ethical issues here.
Say they did this in extremely poor countries.

Answer by Teekno
There aren’t ethical reasons not to do it, but there are legal ones.

How are Carnival Cruises during the winter months?
I am looking to book a carnival cruise preferably to the Bahamas during December. I have taken two Carnival cruises before both during Spring Break and they are naturally awesome. I just wanted to know if I would be in line for a severe letdown, or if cruises during the winter months are somewhat on par as far as single good looking girls and an overall good time

Answer by WB
The winter cruises mainly consist of the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico. They will be no let down, unless you have some rough weather. Its posible to miss a port but thats really it. Bahamas cruises start at about $ 199pp for a 3-day cruise. Below you will find all the deals for that month.

http://vacationstogo.com/ticker.cfm

Hope I helped!

Answer by bluedreams1810
It won’t be a let down. It’s generally exactly the same as a cruise over peak time, but it’s cheaper. There may be less girls, because I’m sure over spring break there are a ton, but i’m sure there will still be single people!

Answer by ideas
I actually prefer to go to Mexico in December. It’s cold at home, and the warm weather is a nice break. And in Mexico, it’s simply warm/hot in December, not hot/miserable. (The weather in the Bahamas is probably not as variable).

I can’t compare to Spring Break because I don’t take those cruises, but there are lots of young single people on the cruises I’ve been on in Winter.

I think the weather will be pretty nice in the Bahamas, but I would look it up to be sure.

Cruises are also a lot cheaper for off peak times. I’m taking a 5 day Carnival in December and paid only $ 229. I’ve seen the same cruise as low as $ 199. During spring break and around new New Years, the same cruise will be $ 500-$ 700.

Good luck.

Answer by Vamshi
there wont be severe letdown and the girls would be comparitively less.
